Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. body aches or pain
  3. burning, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  4. burning upper stomach pain
  5. chills
  6. cough
  7. difficulty in breathing
  8. ear congestion
  9. fever
  10. headache
  11. loss of appetite
  12. loss of voice
  13. nausea
  14. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  15. runny or stuffy nose
  16. sneezing
  17. sore throat
  18. tightness in the chest
  19. unusual tiredness or weakness
  20. vomiting
  21. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  22. weight loss

Rare

  1. Bladder pain
  2. bleeding from the rectum
  3. bloody or cloudy urine
  4. blurred vision
  5. bruising
  6. burning, dry, or itching eyes
  7. chest pain or discomfort
  8. confusion
  9. diarrhea
  10. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  11. discharge, excessive tearing
  12. dizziness
  13. fainting
  14. frequent urge to urinate
  15. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  16. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  17. itching, skin rash
  18. joint pain
  19. large, flat, blue or purplish patches in the skin
  20. lower back or side pain
  21. muscle aches and pains
  22. nervousness
  23. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, back, or neck
  24. pounding in the ears
  25. redness or other discoloration of the skin
  26. redness, pain, swelling of the eye, eyelid, or inner lining of the eyelid
  27. redness, swelling, or soreness of the tongue
  28. severe constipation
  29. severe numbness, especially on one side of the face or body
  30. severe sunburn
  31. shivering
  32. slow or fast heartbeat
  33. sore throat
  34. stomach pain
  35. sweating
  36. tooth disorder
  37. trouble sleeping
  38. trouble swallowing
  39. tumor
  40. white patches in the mouth or on the tongue

Incidence not known

  1. Blistering, peeling, loosening of the skin
  2. chest pain
  3. clumsiness
  4. decreased vision
  5. joint or muscle pain
  6. red irritated eyes
  7. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  8. redness or soreness around fingernails or loosening of the fingernails
  9. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  10. swollen glands
  11. unusual bleeding or bruising

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  2. burning, numbness, tingling, or painful sensations
  3. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  4. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  5. difficult, noisy, fast, or deep breathing
  6. hearing loss
  7. increased sweating
  8. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  9. loss of consciousness
  10. pale skin
  11. seizures
  12. shakiness and unsteady walk
  13. slow heartbeat
  14. swelling in the legs and ankles
  15. unsteadiness, trembling, or other problems with muscle control or coordination
  16. weakness in the arms, hands, legs, or feet

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Belching
  2. bloating
  3. burning or itching around the anus
  4. change in or loss of taste
  5. darkening of the tongue
  6. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  7. feeling of fullness
  8. heartburn
  9. indigestion
  10. lack or loss of strength
  11. passing gas
  12. stomach discomfort or upset

Rare

  1. Blemishes on the skin
  2. difficulty in moving
  3. drowsiness
  4. dry mouth
  5. joint swelling or stiffness
  6. pimples
