Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Abdominal or stomach pain
  2. bloating
  3. blurred vision
  4. chills
  5. constipation
  6. cough
  7. darkened urine
  8. difficulty with swallowing
  9. dizziness
  10. dry mouth
  11. fast heartbeat
  12. fever
  13. flushed, dry skin
  14. fruit-like breath odor
  15. hives
  16. increased hunger
  17. increased thirst
  18. increased urination
  19. indigestion
  20. itching
  21. joint pain
  22. loss of appetite
  23. nausea
  24. pains in the chest, groin, or legs, especially calves of the legs
  25. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  26. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  27. shortness of breath
  28. skin rash
  29. stomach pain (severe) with nausea and vomiting
  30. sudden loss of coordination
  31. sudden onset of severe headaches
  32. sudden onset of slurred speech
  33. sudden vision changes
  34. sweating
  35. tightness in the chest
  36. troubled breathing
  37. unexplained weight loss
  38. unusual bleeding or bruising
  39. unusual tiredness or weakness
  40. vomiting
  41. yellow eyes or skin

Less common

  1. Confusion
  2. convulsions (seizures)
  3. depression
  4. drowsiness
  5. frequent urination
  6. loss of bladder control
  7. lower back or side pain
  8. muscle spasm or jerking of all extremities
  9. nervousness
  10. numbness or tingling in the hands, arms, or legs
  11. seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there
  12. severe weakness
  13. sores in the mouth or on the lips
  14. sudden loss of consciousness
  15. swelling of the feet or lower legs
  16. unusual thirst

Rare

  1. Inability to move the arms or legs

Incidence not known

  1. Abdominal or stomach tenderness
  2. bloody or cloudy urine
  3. change in consciousness
  4. clay-colored stools
  5. continuous nausea or vomiting
  6. loss of consciousness
  7. pounding in the ears
  8. slow heartbeat

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Stomach cramps
  2. weight loss
