Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Some side effects will have signs or symptoms that you can see or feel. Your doctor may watch for others by doing certain tests. Some of the unwanted effects that may be caused by aminoglutethimide are listed below. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Rare

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blood in urine or stools
  3. cough or hoarseness, accompanied by fever or chills
  4. fever or chills
  5. lower back or side pain, accompanied by fever or chills
  6. painful or difficult urination, accompanied by fever or chills
  7. pinpoint red spots on skin
  8. shortness of breath
  9. unusual bleeding or bruising
  10. yellow eyes or skin

Check with your doctor as soon as possible if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Drowsiness
  2. measles-like skin rash or itching on face and/or palms of hands

Less common

  1. Clumsiness
  2. dizziness or lightheadedness (especially when getting up from a lying or sitting position)
  3. fast heartbeat
  4. mental depression
  5. shakiness
  6. slurred speech
  7. uncontrolled eye movements
  8. unusual tiredness or weakness

Rare

  1. Neck tenderness or swelling

This medicine may also cause the following side effects that your doctor will watch for:

More common

  1. Low red blood cell count
  2. low white blood cell count

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Loss of appetite
  2. nausea

Less common or rare

  1. Deepening of voice in females
  2. headache
  3. increased hair growth in females
  4. irregular menstrual periods
  5. muscle pain
  6. vomiting
