Nicotine Dependence Center supplies information about electronic cigarettes

E-cigarettes provide inhaled doses of a vaporized solution of propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin with liquid nicotine. There is no long-term safety data showing the impact of repeated inhalation on lung tissue, but short-term data suggests e-cigarettes may cause airway irritation.


Biomechanical testing identifies novel surgical knot
Biomechanical testing of commonly used surgical knots revealed the superior holding power of a variant called the two-strand overhand locking (TSOL) knot. Mayo Clinic orthopedic surgeons recommend this knot to guard against slippage, especially in high-tension closures such as flexor tendon repairs.

Pain Medicine for the Non-Pain Specialist
March 20-22, 2014, in Marco Island, Fla.
This course targets the integration of pain services across disciplines to address the movement toward improved pain control in acute, chronic and cancer populations. Topics include spine care case presentations, an evidence-based review of neuropathic pain, appropriate opioid use and headache updates.
