Do injections help fibromyalgia or myofascial pain?

Answers from Connie Luedtke, R.N.

Injections of lidocaine — a medicine that dulls or eliminates pain — can be helpful for regional or localized muscle pain and soreness (myofascial pain). However, lidocaine injections aren't indicated for treatment of fibromyalgia pain because of the widespread nature of the pain.

Effective treatments are available, however, for fibromyalgia pain. Your health care team can explain the options and help tailor a management plan for you.
