National Cancer Survivors Day is an annual, worldwide celebration of life held in many communities throughout the United States, Canada and other participating countries.
The celebration is traditionally held on the first Sunday in June. Every year, it's a wonderful day filled with hope, inspiration and friendship as we honor people whose lives have been touched by cancer.
If you're in the Rochester, Minn. area, join us this year for our "Taste of Italy" themed celebration. It will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, at the Rochester International Event Center (located near the airport) at 7333 Airport View Dr. SW. Lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m., followed by a program to honor cancer survivors at 12:15 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Andre Gauthier Foundation and hosted by Mayo Clinic Cancer Center and the American Cancer Society. Admission is free for cancer survivors and two guests. Additional guests are welcome to attend for a nominal fee of $5 per person. Reservations are required by May 27.
To register, call the Mayo Clinic Cancer Education Program at 507-538-6001 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also register online at www.mayoclinic.org/ncsd.
To locate a National Cancer Survivor Day event in your community, call the American Cancer Society at 800-227-2345 (toll-free). We look forward to celebrating with you.
I'd love to hear from those of you who have attended the event in the past. Share with others what you enjoyed the most.

I have not attended the Mayo Cancer Survivors dinner however when I was at Mayo for my checkup last October I attended dinner event put on by a breast cancer support group. We recently started a women's cancer support group in our small area in the UP of Michigan and thought it would be a great idea to do something similar to celebrate our one year anniversary of our support group. Both area hospitals supported us by providing financial help and even catering the luncheon. May businesses gave for door prizes. We had several kinds of musical entertainment and we even did a little skit about how our group got started and how we are doing now. It was a great event with over 80 women cancer survivors and their guests in attendance. Thank you Mayo for your inspiration.
