Desmoid Tumors

Treatment in Minnesota

People with desmoid tumors who come to Mayo Clinic in Minnesota are treated by a multidisciplinary group of specialists in the Medical Oncology Sarcoma Clinic. These specialists' expertise comes from the large volume of tumors treated. Because sarcomas differ from other tumors in pathology and structure, the treating physician must have a complete and thorough understanding of their development. Other Mayo Clinic surgical and medical department specialists are consulted as needed, allowing for a sharing of information that results in the best possible outcome.

In addition, the opening of the Gonda Building in 2002 enabled Mayo Clinic to cluster under one roof services for people with tumors. As a result, patients can see a surgeon, a medical oncologist and a radiation oncologist, as well as undergo diagnostic procedures on the same floor on the same day. In many cases, surgery can be scheduled for the day after diagnosis.
