Dermatology in Minnesota

Pediatric Dermatology

The Department of Dermatology at Mayo Clinic Rochester offers treatment of skin, nail, and hair disorders for children of all ages. This includes the treatment of more common conditions such as atopic eczema, acne, moles, and warts, as well as less common conditions, including inherited disorders, hair loss, hemangiomas, and other birthmarks.

Although most dermatologic care is provided as an outpatient, inpatient skin treatment programs are also available at the Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital. These specialized skin care treatments are especially helpful for children with severe psoriasis, atopic eczema, and other skin conditions that have not responded to usual therapies.

The department offers some of the newest technology in lasers, in particular for the treatment of vascular birthmarks such as portwine stains and hemangiomas. Sedation or topical anesthetics are available to make these procedures more comfortable for children.

Staff

Dawn M. R. Davis, M.D., Jennifer L. Hand, M.D. and Marian McEvoy, M.D., are board-certified dermatologists with a special interest in the treatment of children. In addition, Dr. Hand has specialized training in the area of inherited or genetic disorders.

A strong collaboration exists between the Dermatology physicians and other pediatric specialists at Mayo Clinic, to ensure a comprehensive approach to the care of children of all ages. These include physicians with expertise in the areas of allergy and immunology, infectious disease, oncology, rheumatology, and plastic surgery.
