Treatment
Mayo Clinic uses a variety of strategies to control dermatitis. These include:
- Topical corticosteroids and newer topical immunosuppressive treatments
- Antihistamines
- Instruction on avoiding irritants or allergens
- Use of wet dressings. Medicated cream is applied to affected areas and these areas are covered with cotton material soaked in a solution prescribed by a doctor. The moisture in the wet dressings helps the skin absorb the medicated cream. They may be used in a hospital setting or at home.
- Ultraviolet light treatments (UVA, UVB)
- Hospitalization for severe dermatitis that does not respond to the treatments above (Rochester only)
- Immunosuppressive treatments
