Depression

Causes

Several factors can reult in depression.

  • Changes in brain chemistry are thought to be involved.
  • Family history and genetic inheritance have been linked to depression.
  • Stressful events in life, such as a serious loss, difficult relationship, job change or financial problem, can trigger an episode of depression.
  • Medical illness can affect emotions and cause depression.
  • Medications, including drugs used for heart conditions, cancer, hormone regulation and high blood pressure, are linked to episodes of depression.
  • Drugs or alcohol or abuse of prescription medication can affect depression.
