The throwers performance training program is a unique, one-on-one session for baseball pitchers and other competitive throwers. The perfect complement to sports camps and coaching activities, Mayo's program provides detailed evaluation of the mechanics and physical attributes of the overhand throwing motion, helping participants maximize each pitch or throw.
After completing a throwing questionnaire, you will be assessed by a specially trained physical therapist. The assessment covers exercise, flexibility and injury prevention. Based on the information gathered in the questionnaire and assessment, Mayo staff will create an exercise prescription according to your needs, strengths and weaknesses. The focus is on helping you perfect your throwing mechanics, as well as improving body leverage.
Biomechanical Video Analysis
As part of the physical assessment, a digital video captures your throwing motion. Every aspect of the throw is scrutinized, including trunk rotation, step, lunging movement and shoulder range of motion. A copy of the video, along with a biomechanical analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of each component, will be provided to you following the session for review later.
The throwers program isn't intended to teach a specific pitch or other strategic component. The program is an extremely effective supplement to camp or coaching activities because it provides individualized attention to the mechanics of throwing. Experienced physical therapists will help you perfect throws you have learned and use your body to its full potential.
The throwers performance training program gives the beginning pitcher or thrower confidence in throwing safely and pain free. It gives higher-level athletes the attention needed to capitalize on strengths and improve weaknesses.
