In the three-week PRC program, occupational therapists help patients balance work, self-care and leisure activities. For many patients, pain controls their extent of activities. Many have given up what they once enjoyed or changed daily routines because of pain.
Occupational therapy involves discussion and hands-on application of such topics as balancing daily activities, duration and pacing in completion of tasks, time management, activity modification and moderation, body mechanics and computer ergonomics concepts. Occupational therapy staff also assist with return-to-work issues on an as-needed, individual basis.
