Aesthetic plastic surgery is cosmetic surgery performed to reshape the nose, ears, chin, cheekbones and neckline. The procedures are designed to reverse the signs of aging, to remove contour irregularities or deformities and to make the overall appearance of the face more natural and youthful. Reconstructive facial surgery is done to correct birth defects and traumatic and postsurgical deformities, as well as to reconstruct defects caused by the removal of skin cancer. Aesthetic and reconstructive facial surgery is performed in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology by surgeons certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
The first step in considering aesthetic and reconstructive facial plastic surgery is a meeting with the surgeon to discuss goals, alternatives and potential risks and benefits of facial surgery. Once the treatment course has been decided, either inpatient or outpatient surgery is performed. The follow-up care is performed by the surgery team.
