Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla., and Mayo Clinic in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Ariz., are ranked as high performing for aortic valve replacement and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedures by U.S. News & World Report. "High performing" is a designation given to the top 16% of TAVR programs across the nation (600+ programs). U.S News & World Report ranked hospitals for this procedure for the first time in 2022-2023.

Advanced treatment

Your doctor may recommend heart valve surgery to repair or replace damaged heart valves. In some cases, you may be a candidate for minimally invasive or robotic heart surgery. Mayo Clinic surgeons and interventional cardiologists have extensive expertise in performing heart valve surgery, including in people with complex or serious conditions. Advanced procedures include mitral and aortic valve replacement or repair, closure of paravalvular leaks, and percutaneous treatment options for a variety of other disorders for people for whom traditional surgery is too risky. Your treatment team also might talk with you about options being researched, such as transcatheter tricuspid valve repair.

Mayo Clinic doctors have access to the most advanced imaging technology to help ensure the best possible outcome. The clinic was the first health care organization to use a next-generation 4D intracardiac echo, also called ICE, device in patients to guide certain heart procedures. These include left atrial appendage closure, mitral valve repair and treatment of tricuspid valve regurgitation. This new technology also can help doctors perform procedures without putting patients under general anesthesia.
