Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries

Diagnosis

Congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries is usually diagnosed while evaluating other problems associated with this heart defect. Tests may include:

  • echocardiogram
A test which evaluates the structure and function of the heart and blood flow through the heart by using sound waves to produce a moving picture of the heart.

  • electrocardiogram
A test that records the electrical activity of the heart, shows abnormal rhythms (arrhythmias or dysrhythmias) and detects heart muscle stress.

  • cardiac catheterization
A special dye is injected into the heart to show how the heart is functioning. In some cases this test may provide additional information after the echocardiogram.
