Congenital Heart Disease

Center for Congenital Heart Disease

Children and adults with congenital heart disease require complex, multidisciplinary care for continued survival and quality of life. In addition, they need advice about issues such as exercise, employability, insurance and pregnancy and education about cardiac anatomy, prognosis, and potential future heart problems.

The Center for Congenital Heart Disease at Mayo Clinic Rochester brings together specialists from Pediatric Cardiovascular Diseases, Cardiovascular Surgery, Anesthesiology and cardiologists from the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Clinic to deliver this special care to patients of all ages. The doctors in the Center for Congenital Heart Disease have special expertise and training in all aspects of complex congenital heart disease, including cyanotic heart disease, pulmonary hypertension and the management of pregnancy and contraception. They work closely with other specialists at Mayo Clinic to address medical needs.

At Mayo Clinic Rochester, patients with congenital heart disease can be cared for from birth to old age by the same group of doctors — and in fact, this is a common occurrence. Doctors in the center are also involved in cutting-edge research to find new and more effective treatments.
