Education is a high priority for the Rochester community, reflected in the fact that the city's high school graduation rate is one of the highest in the country.

  • The city's public school district is made up of 18 elementary, four middle and three senior high schools. There is also a strong parochial school system and several private elementary schools.
  • A number of alternative programs for young people with special circumstances or learning needs and accelerated programs and advanced placement courses are also available.
  • Community Education lives up to its motto "Lifetime Learning for All" by providing a feast of classes and activities for every generation at reasonable prices. A quarterly catalog is mailed to Rochester homes detailing classes as varied as snorkeling, investment strategies and Spanish conversation.
  • Mayo Clinic offers internationally known education opportunities for healthcare professionals.
  • Family Services offers hundreds of classes and activities, including Adult Literacy, consumer credit counseling and senior citizens' classes. This is run in cooperation with community agencies, civic groups, businesses and individual instructors.
  • Higher education in Rochester offers students a wide choice. Nearly two hundred programs are offered at the University Center, which is shared by Rochester Community and Technical College, the University of Minnesota Rochester, Winona State University and Rochester Center. Saint Mary's University also offers programs at the Heintz Center on the University Center Rochester campus.
