As a result, patients can see a gastroenterologist, a surgeon, a medical oncologist and a radiation oncologist, as well as undergo diagnostic procedures on the same floor on the same day. In many cases, surgery can be scheduled for the day after diagnosis. Surgeons in Rochester are also leaders in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) surgery.

Patients undergoing colostomy-sparing surgery are treated by specialists from Colon and Rectal Surgery, Gastroenterology, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Pathology and Medical Genetics as appropriate.
