The 85-bed hospital has 43 general care beds, 28 neonatal intensive care beds and 14 pediatric intensive care beds. The hospital is located near the Emergency Room, heliport, surgical suites, diagnostic radiology and specialized cardiac diagnostic and treatment facilities.
Tests are performed in designated procedure areas to preserve a sense of security in the child's room.
There are three main care areas in the hospital:
The General Pediatric Unit is located in the Francis Building on the Second and Third Floors (Fr 3C/Fr 2B). Infants, children and teens usually are grouped according to their age. Patients are admitted to the General Pediatric Unit for a variety of reasons including illness, injury or surgery. The unit specializes in family-centered care.
All rooms are private and contain a private bathroom, a couch/bed for a family member, a television, a video cassette player and a music system.
The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is located in the Mary Brigh Building on the Third Floor (Mb 3G). The PICU specializes in family-centered care of critically ill children. Transplant patients are also cared for in the PICU. All rooms are private and contain a private bathroom, a couch/bed for a family member, a television, a video cassette player and a music system.
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is located in the Mary Brigh Building on the Third Floor (Mb 3B). The NICU specializes in family-centered care of critically ill newborn infants. Newborn infants are assigned a bed in one of the unit's several rooms. Families are welcome at the bedside and will find many support spaces throughout the NICU such as the family waiting areas/rooms, parent sleep rooms and breastfeeding rooms.
The children's hospital also reflects the developmentally specific needs of children of various ages. Separate play areas supervised by childlife specialists have been designed for infants, toddlers, preschool, and school-age children. Adolescents occupy a separate floor and have their own activity lounge.
Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital is located near specialized imaging and other diagnostic equipment, and physical medicine and rehabilitative facilities. The hospital is also in close proximity to surgical suites, the Mayo Emergency Trauma Unit, the Mayo One heliport, and cardiovascular diagnostic and treatment areas.
