Chiari Malformation

Overview

Chiari malformation is a rare abnormality in your brain that causes part of your brain (the cerebellum) and brainstem to extend into your spinal canal. Your condition may be present at birth (congenital), or it may develop as your skull and brain grow. Chiari malformation has four different types (type I, II, III and IV), which have different signs and symptoms.
