Mayo Clinic Addiction Services provides care to individuals who abuse or are addicted to alcohol, prescription medications or illicit drugs, and who may have coexisting psychiatric or medical conditions. A physician-directed, multidisciplinary team provides full diagnostic evaluations and uses well-established psychiatric and medical treatment methods.
Addiction Services offers patients a continuum of care, including intensive outpatient treatment, family programs and recovery maintenance programs. This ensures that patients have access to the appropriate level of services as they progress towards their goals. Length of treatment is based upon individual patient needs.
Patients also have access to other medical services at Mayo to treat coexisting disorders, such as depression, anxiety and other medical conditions.

This thorough evaluation includes assessments by nurses, counselors and physicians to determine diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
This specialized evaluation includes a comprehensive substance use assessment with additional psychiatric, psychologic and medical components. Team members assist the patient in communicating recommendations to professional boards and licensing agencies.
Patients stay at Mayo for 28 days of intensive treatments. This level of care provides a safe environment to establish sobriety and develop relapse-prevention skills.
This program offers three weeks of half-day primary outpatient addiction treatment. Program components include group, individual and family sessions.
This is a one-day program offered two times each month for adult family members and loved ones of individuals with substance abuse problems. For those with a loved one currently in the Intensive Addiction Program, a second day is available for individual family sessions if requested.

Mayo Clinic is a smoke-free institution. Smoking is not permitted in Mayo Clinic buildings or on its grounds. Medication and other support for nicotine craving are provided.
