Mayo Clinic Welcomes New Staff

Transplantation
Dr. Juan Canabal has joined the Department of Transplantation Services from Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio. Canabal earned a medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Akron General Medical Center and a fellowship in critical care medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Canabal is board certified in internal and critical care medicine.

Nephrology
Dr. Jamie Dwyer has joined the Department of Nephrology. Dwyer earned a medical degree from Brown University School of Medicine in Providence, R.I., completed an internship and residency at Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education in Jacksonville and a nephrology fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. He is board certified in internal medicine.

Neurology
Dr. William Freeman has joined the Department of Neurology from Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where he recently completed a fellowship in critical care neurology. Freeman earned a medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and completed a residency in neurology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Otolaryngology
Dr. Christopher Garvey has joined the Department of Otolaryngology. Garvey most recently was in private practice at North Florida Otolaryngology Associates in Jacksonville. He received a medical degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa., completed a surgical internship at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Ga., and a residency in otolaryngology at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City. Garvey is board certified in otolaryngology.

Radiology
Dr. Vivek Gupta has joined the Department of Radiology from the University of Arkansas Medical Center in Little Rock. Gupta earned a medical degree from All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, where he also completed a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship in diagnostic and interventional neuroradiology. He also completed an internship at MetroHealth Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, as well as a residency in diagnostic radiology and fellowship in neuroradiology at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Conn. He is board certified in radiology and neuroradiology.

Family Medicine
Dr. Amber Isley has joined the Department of Family Medicine. Isley earned a medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, and completed an internship and residency in family medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. She is board certified in family medicine.

Radiation Oncology
Siyong Kim, Ph.D., has joined the Department of Radiation Oncology from the University of Florida in Gainesville. Kim earned a master's in nuclear engineering from Seoul National University in Korea and a Ph.D. in medical physics/radiation therapy from the University of Florida. He is board certified in radiation oncology.

Psychiatry/Psychology
Otto Pedraza, Ph.D., has joined the Department of Psychiatry/Psychology. Pedraza earned a Ph.D. in clinical psychology with a specialty in neuropsychology from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He completed an internship in clinical neuropsychology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Ga., and a fellowship in clinical neuropsychology from Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Jacksonville.

Research/Neuroscience
Hanno Roder, Ph.D., has joined the Department of Research in the section of neuroscience. Roder received a Ph.D in organic chemistry from the University of Wuerzburg in Germany, completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., and a research fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

Executive and International Medicine
Dr. Michael Steffan has joined the Department of Executive and International Medicine. He earned a medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis and completed an internal medicine residency at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester. Steffan is board certified in internal medicine.
