Making Rounds

Mayo Clinic Health Forum

The Mayo Clinic Health Forum offers educational seminars that provide medical information to our community. Mayo Clinic physicians share their expertise on a variety of health-related topics, and they are available after their presentations to answer questions one-on-one. The seminars are free, open to the public and most are held in Kinne Auditorium on the clinic campus. Please call (904) 953-0770 or visit www.mayoclinic.org/Jacksonville for dates and times of upcoming forums.

An Upbeat Pink

The University of North Florida Wind Ensemble and Mayo Clinic present "An Upbeat Pink: A Musical Tribute to Breast Cancer Survivorship." The concert is conducted by Dr. Gordon Brock. Special guests include Mayo Clinic cancer specialist Dr. Edith Perez and television news anchor and breast cancer survivor Donna Hicken. The event begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, in the Lazzara Performance Hall at the UNF Fine Arts Center. Free and open to all.

CREST Trial Still Enrolling

Researchers have enrolled more than 1,000 people at risk for stroke from carotid artery disease in an ongoing, nationwide clinical trial comparing two procedures used to prevent stroke. Researchers with the Carotid Revascularization Endarterectomy vs. Stenting Trial (CREST) still hope to recruit more women and minorities to reach their goal of 2,500 randomized participants. Of 2,500 participants, researchers hope to enroll 40 percent women and 12 percent minorities. If you're interested in participating, please call (904) 953-2854.

Construction Update

As the hot summer draws to a close in North Florida, construction crews working on Mayo Clinic's new hospital have turned their efforts from building up to building out. The nursing tower is almost topped off, the exterior skin of the Mayo Building, including glass, metal siding and stone, is near completion, and workers are now focusing on the inside. Walls are going up, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing construction is in high gear. For photos of the construction, please visit www.mayoclinic.org/mayo-clinic-hospital-jax.
