Dr. Thomas Gonwa, a Mayo Clinic kidney and pancreas transplant medicine specialist, has been selected as the recipient of the American Society of Transplantation's 2005 Senior Achievement Award in Clinical Transplantation. The award recognizes Gonwa's outstanding contribution to clinical science during his career. The society, founded in 1982, has a membership of more than 2,200 transplant professionals.
The University of North Florida Wind Ensemble and Mayo Clinic present "An Upbeat Pink: A Musical Tribute to Breast Cancer Survivorship." The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) named Mayo sports medicine physician Dr. Walter Taylor the 2004 recipient of its annual Dr. Irving Click Award in April. Named after one of the U.S. Open's most admired chief medical officers, the award is given at the end of each tennis season to a tournament physician to honor outstanding service and sports medicine excellence. Taylor has served as a tournament physician to the Bausch & Lomb Tournament for seven years.
This comprehensive outpatient program teaches diabetics self-management skills. Health-care professionals teach a series of four classes totaling 10 hours in a supportive, small-group environment.
