Symptoms
There are no typical symptoms of celiac disease; however, most patients have general complaints of:
- Diarrhea
- Weight loss
- Abdominal gas
- Bloating
- Anemia
- Growth failure (in children)
Celiac disease may also present itself in less obvious ways, including:
- Irritability/depression
- Stomach upset
- Constipation
- Joint pain
- Abdominal pain
- Fatigue
- Menstrual abnormalities or infertility
- Headaches
- Muscle cramps
- Skin rash
- Mouth sores
- Dental and bone disorders
- Tingling in the legs and feet (neuropathy)
Symptoms may also mimic other conditions, such as:
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Gastric ulcers
- Crohn's disease
- Parasite infections
- Anemia
- Nervous conditions
