Mayo Clinic is investigating new and innovative ways to diagnose and treat celiac disease. Mayo's research program, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, focuses on several aspects of celiac disease. They include celiac disease's prevalence, its causes, the role of genetics in predicting celiac disease, development of animal models for the disease and the skin rash associated with celiac — dermatitis herpetiformis.
