Mayo Clinic Exploring Program Available Once Again

The Mayo Clinic Exploring Program is off to a wonderful start in 2007-2008. Currently there are two Exploring Posts available: the Allied Health Post (therapists, radiography, respiratory, nursing, etc.) and the Medical Post (physician). The Mayo Foundation, in partnership with the Learning for Life Program, BSA, provides this program for high school juniors and seniors who are interested in these health care careers. Each Exploring Post provides a learning experience revolving around the following goals: career exploration, life skill development, service learning experiences, character education and leadership opportunities.

Both Exploring Posts meet from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on the following dates:

  • January 10
  • January 24
  • February 7
  • March 6
  • March 20
  • April 3

No pre-registration is required to participate in the Exploring Program. Simply come to the main entrance to the Siebens building promptly at 7 p.m. on the above dates. If you are a new student, please bring $15 with you for the registration fee. Most building entrances are locked in the evening, so it is important to arrive on time. Representatives will be available to let you in the building and take you to the meeting room. For your convenience, there is a drop-off spot near the main entrance of Siebens in the 2nd Avenue circle drive.

2007 Health Care Career Festival Results

The 2007 Health Care Career Festival was a tremendous success. Forty-seven area schools sent 766 students to this all-day event. For those students, Mayo Clinic provided more than 45 Department/Work Unit booths with interactive, hands-on activities as well as over 250 Mayo Clinic employees to converse with. The students also attended several classroom seminars covering 18 different career areas.

Evaluations from students, educators and Mayo Clinic employees were very positive and indicated an overall improvement from last year's evaluation. Some of the noted positives from the students and educators were the booths and their hands-on activities, the classroom seminars, and the Mayo Clinic employees who gave their time to the students in a friendly, fun and engaging manner!

The 2008 Health Care Career Festival we will be held on October 7th at the UCR Fieldhouse. Please watch for future announcements on this event in the spring.
