Around the turn of the century, Dr. Charlie and Dr. Will Mayo organized medical professionals in a new way to better care for patients. They created a system that emphasized teamwork, specialization and taking the time to thoroughly investigate patient problems.

With this system, Mayo Clinic in Rochester has grown into one of the nation's largest private medical centers. The total square footage of the Mayo campus is almost three times larger than the Mall of America. Mayo Clinic in Rochester is affiliated with a network of clinics and hospitals known as Mayo Health System. These clinics and hospitals are dedicated to serving over 60 communities in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Mayo Health System provides community-based care, while supported by the highly specialized expertise and resources of Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
