SURGICAL ASSISTANT
Daily Tasks
Assists the surgeon in the operating room. Duties include moving and positioning patients, retracting tissue, exposing the operating field, clamping and tying blood vessels and tying sutures.

Communications skills, attention to detail, positive personality, human relations skills, multitasking, self-motivated, ability to work independently, ability to work with a team, professional image, respect diversity, flexibility, honesty and caring attitude towards people, the ability to stand for long periods of time.
Work Setting
A hospital operating room.
Work Hours
Day or evening shifts, Monday-Friday, with some on-call requirements. Overtime is mandatory.
Education
Graduate of an accredited certified surgical assistant program preferred, or a graduate of an accredited certified surgical technologist program with an associate degree in applied science. Must become certified as a surgical assistant through N.S.A.A. within 2.5 years.
Qualifications
Good knowledge of anatomy. Continuing education to keep up with the latest technologies and techniques.
