REGISTERED CARDIAC INVASIVE SPECIALIST
Daily Tasks
Works in the Cardiac Catheterization or Electrophysiology/Pacemaker Laboratories. Assists the cardiologist or cardiac surgeon in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures. On a typical day would assist with procedures on four to eight patients. Duties include preparing procedure rooms, prepping patients for the procedure, insertion of the catheter, operation of various electronic instruments, patient monitoring, data collection and transcription.
Skills/Talents
Oral and written communication skills; organizing and prioritizing skills; cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude; excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; ability to function independently. Computer, math and science knowledge a plus.
Work Setting
Clinical and hospital laboratory environment.
Work Hours
Day shifts with periodic on-call requirements evenings and weekends.
Education
Successful completion of invasive cardiac technology program. A new program has recently been established within the Mayo School of Health Sciences.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited invasive specialist program preferred. Registry-eligible -- must move toward registered status within six months of employment. Basic EKG interpretation skills. Basic life support is mandatory, advanced cardiac life support recommended.
