RADIATION THERAPIST
Daily Tasks
Delivers radiation treatments to cancer patients. Also helps train radiation therapy students.
Skills/Talents
Communication skills, human relations skills, ability to work independently as well as within a team atmosphere, lifelong learner, work with complex technology and procedures.
Work Setting
Patient treatment areas within Oncology.
Work Hours
Typically Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. with some on-call.
Education
Graduate of an approved/accredited radiation therapy program. There are associate degree programs, radiography and radiation therapy programs and bachelor's degree programs.
Qualifications
Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiation Therapy. Continuing education.
Recommended High School Classes
college prep, computer applications, health education, advanced sciences (biology and chemistry), anatomy/physiology, algebra, second language and psychology
