STACY
I strive to ensure the patient is getting what they need in the right quality, right quantity, right time and right place ... I am here for the patients.
In my lead position, I work with employee scheduling and daily assignments for staff. Our work units are responsible for sterility assurance of procedural trays and instrumentation throughout the Rochester campus. We utilize the latest sterilization and disinfection technology available. On-the-job education and training is provided. A critical part of our training is learning the different types of instrumentation and tray assembly. We have thousands of instruments and we need to know what they are and how to identify them. We clean, disinfect and ensure proper function of patient care equipment -- so we also need to know the chemicals we use.
Applicants need to have the ability to work alone as well as with other people; teamwork is a requirement in our work unit. You can come into linen and central services as a technician and move on to a lead technician. You can work toward an assistant supervisor or a supervisor position. Mayo Clinic helps pay for further education.
It actually feels really good to say I work for Mayo Clinic ... it's something I am proud of. I never expected that I would work at Mayo Clinic; it was a great feeling when I got my foot in the door.
