| Daily Tasks |
|
Assists pathologists in the examination and dissection of human specimens and autopsies. Specific duties include but are not limited to: description and examination of body parts removed during surgery; submission of tissue samples for other testing; summarization of patient's medical records; X-ray deceased patients, organs, and surgical specimens; preserve and process specimens and assist with training of medical school students, pathology residents, fellows and assistants.

| Work Setting |
|
Academic centers, such as teaching medical centers, medical schools or university hospitals, reference laboratories, and the medical examiner's/corner's office.

| Work Hours |
|
Typically 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Friday with some weekend hours possible.
|
|
| Education |
|
Graduate of a master's level pathologist's assistant training program accredited by NAACLS.
|
|
| Qualifications |
|
Experience as a laboratory technician with surgical pathology and autopsy examinations, as well as knowledge of medical terminology, medical practices and human anatomy is required.
