MEDICAL TRANSCRIPTIONIST
Daily Tasks
Transcribes notes for patient's medical record dictated by physicians and other health-care providers. Tasks involve listening and transcribing information with the use of a computer.
Skills/Talents
Ability to understand diverse accents and dialects and varying dictation styles. Need to possess good communication, computer, interpersonal and organizational skills and have the ability to work independently.

Office setting.

Variety of work schedules.
Education
Completion of a formal training program in the medical secretary/transcriptionist field or equivalent experience.
Qualifications
Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy. Excellent knowledge of English usage, grammar, punctuation and style. Good eye-hand coordination and hearing abilities. Strong knowledge of computers, word processing software and dictation/transcription equipment. Typing ability of 60 words per minute. Successful completion of Mayo Clinic's entry-level medical transcription test.
