HUMAN RESOURCES SYSTEMS ANALYST

SCOTT

Everyone understands Mayo Clinic. When I say I work at Mayo Clinic people say, "You work for the Mayo Clinic -- wow!" I say with pride that I work here.

I help design and test both applications and systems used by Human Resources. I support HR functions such as the call center, payroll, and benefits. I get to work with both new and old computer technology, some built in-house and some purchased from external vendors. I enjoy getting a chance to learn and use a lot of different systems, and working with many different people.

Students interested in this field should have good analytical skills. Good communication skills, especially listening skills, will also be helpful. This job requires understanding what people want and then developing new or modifying existing systems to meet their needs. Customer service skills are vital.

My advice to students is to get as much information as you can about different jobs. Talk to as many people as you can -- focus on what is interesting to you, but be prepared to adjust as you go along.
