CUSTODIAN/HOUSEKEEPER

ABDELHAMEED

I feel very lucky to have this position and to be a part of the Mayo Clinic staff. It is a great place to work. Environmental Services has teamwork ... we help each other and we have great supervisors.

My job is supporting the care of patients by cleaning their rooms. I have a specific area in the hospital that I work in. I like the teamwork. My co-workers and the patients' families really appreciate what I do. They talk to me and want to know where I'm from and how the weather is where I live.

We have a lot of on-the-job training. Most of the training is how to protect yourself, how to use chemicals and what to do if there is a fire or chemical spill. You have to go through the training to know how to act. Mayo provides everything you need to perform your job successfully. If you have a question, you just have to ask. There are opportunities for movement with my job -- you can move from housekeeper to houseperson. You can also move to another department. There are also many benefits of working at Mayo, from the compensation to the comfortable feeling of not getting laid off. We get paid time off and the health insurance is good. Education opportunities that are offered are also a great benefit.

Mayo Clinic has diversity in its staff. People from all around the world work here -- you can find many of them in our department.
