Works as a member of many laboratory teams, providing pre- and post-test consultation, technical support and genetic counseling expertise to referring physicians and health-care professionals. Coordinates and tracks specimens, reports results and serves as an educator and resource person. Genetic counselors specialize in the following areas: pediatric/adult, cancer, prenatal and laboratory.
