Mayo Clinic's Interventional Cardiology Clinic provides patients with expert diagnosis, rapid access to Mayo's state-of-the-art Catheterization Laboratory, consultation with other specialties when needed, and the option of continued care with a Mayo Clinic interventional cardiologist.
Patients are referred from all over the United States to the Interventional Cardiology Clinic for diagnosis and treatment of high-risk and complex forms of coronary artery disease, intractable angina (chest pain), and congenital and valvular heart disorders.
The clinic also collaborates with specialists in other areas to diagnose and treat patients with carotid artery and peripheral vascular disease who may be helped by catheter-based forms of therapy.
ExpertiseThe Interventional Cardiology Clinic is staffed by numerous internationally recognized interventional cardiologists with vast experience in diagnosing and treating the most challenging forms of coronary artery and other diseases. Specialists from surgical, interventional and non-invasive cardiology are brought together at one site in order to more easily collaborate to provide the most appropriate treatment options for patients.
AccessPatients seen in the Interventional Cardiology Clinic usually undergo actual treatment later the same day rather than having to set an appointment for a later date. This approach greatly reduces the stress of having to wait, along with the costs and logistic challenges associated with a longer stay or separate trip. Procedures also are performed on Saturdays.
Integrated CareIf it is determined that a catheter-based procedure is not possible or appropriate, a patient will be immediately referred to a Mayo Clinic cardiovascular surgeon or other expert, such as a chest pain specialist. Consultations are usually possible within the same day. Read more about Mayo Clinic Cardiovascular Surgery or the Mayo Clinic Chest Pain and Coronary Physiology Clinic.
Continuity of CareAfter treatment, patients may choose to continue their care with a Mayo Clinic interventional cardiologist or may return to their own physician.
AppointmentsPatients may be referred directly to the Interventional Cardiology Clinic by their physician. Generally, next-day access is available for all patients. Physicians may call Mayo Clinic's Interventional Clinic, 507-284-3994, Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Central Time to make a referral.
