Mayo Heart Rhythm Clinic is one of the largest arrhythmia treatment Clinics in the nation, treating more than 4,000 patients per year with heart rhythm disorders. Some common disorders assessed every day at the Heart Rhythm Clinic are:

  • Syncope (fainting or blackouts): Assess severity and conduct further testing to determine benefit of medications or placement of an internal pacemaker or defibrillator
  • Heart failure: Determine potential response to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT)
  • Heart disease: Assess risk of sudden death and determine candidacy for implantable defibrillator
  • Arrhythmias (bradycardia, tachycardia, palpitations): Assess patients not responding to medical therapy and determine benefit of radiofrequency ablation treatment

Just as there are many types of arrhythmias and related complications, the Mayo Heart Rhythm Clinic consists of six sub-clinics to address each patient's needs. Within the Clinic, experienced cardiologists diagnose and treat patients in these specialized sub-clinics:

Mayo Clinic Experience, Expertise

Every year, Mayo Heart Rhythm Clinic physicians place over 600 defibrillators, 800 pacemakers and 200 CRT devices, and perform over 800 catheter ablations. The high volume of patients treated gives the physicians significant daily exposure to patients with heart rhythm disorders. Many physicians also have been with Mayo Clinic for over 15 years and are world-renowned experts in heart rhythm disorders.

The experienced staff also has every advanced imaging and mapping technique available today. These diagnostic tools, including stereotaxis, intracardiac ultrasound and three-dimensional mapping, allow physicians to make prompt and accurate diagnoses and to formulate personalized treatment plans.The combination of advanced imaging techniques, different treatment options, and the experience of Mayo physicians allows the Heart Rhythm Clinic staff to do more complicated and advanced procedures, and to give its patients world-class care that is second to none.

Research

The experienced physicians in the Heart Rhythm Clinic also bring the perspective of clinical researchers. They are actively involved in research and investigation to discover new treatments and improve the care of patients with heart rhythm disorders. For the past five years, Mayo physicians have had the highest number of scientific presentations and invited lectures at meetings of the Heart Rhythm Society, the main professional and patient organization for heart rhythm disorders.
