Mayo Nuclear Cardiology Laboratory

Mayo's Nuclear Cardiology Laboratory is a collaborative effort of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases and the Nuclear Medicine Division in the Department of Radiology. A cardiovascular and a nuclear medicine specialist perform and interpret every study. This team approach ensures the technical and interpretive quality of each patient's study.

The laboratory offers a full range of tests including radionuclide angiograms (MUGA scans), thallium scans, technetium scans and positron emission tomography scans (PET scans).

The most frequent studies conducted include testing heart function, blood flow to the heart, sizing of heart attacks and the recovery potential of hibernating heart muscle. Studies may be performed at rest or while stressing the heart through exercise or medications.
