Mayo Clinic Marfan Syndrome Clinic in Rochester

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota offers an integrated genetic, medical and surgical team of Mayo physicians in the Marfan Syndrome Clinic to diagnose and treat patients of all ages who have Marfan syndrome. The team is one of the most experienced in the nation specializing in Marfan syndrome.

The Marfan Clinic allows patients to access a variety of specialty physicians — cardiologists (heart), cardiac and vascular surgeons, geneticists, ophthalmologists (eyes), pediatricians (children) and orthopedic surgeons (skeleton) — all within one clinic visit, whenever possible.

Treatment of Marfan syndrome may vary, depending on the patient's affected organ systems. Currently, a cure does not exist, but medical care can improve prognosis and life span. Patients at Mayo Clinic work closely with their team of specialists to create a treatment plan that meets their individual needs. Treatment may include medications, surgery and lifestyle changes.

Genetic and reproductive counseling also is provided. Genetic counseling is an important part of the management of patients and families with Marfan syndrome.
