Cardiac Electrophysiology and Pacemaker/Defibrillator Services

Pacemaker Services and Electrophysiology Laboratory staff evaluates and treats adults who have all types of heart rhythm problems (cardiac arrhythmias). The electrophysiology lab offers two biplane procedure rooms with advanced analysis and recording equipment. Staff performs inpatient electrophysiology studies and implantable device procedures at Mayo Clinic Hospital.

Electrophysiology Laboratory staff implants single- and dual-chamber pacemakers and defibrillators, as well as cardiac resynchronization therapy devices (also called biventricular pacemakers), in people who have heart failure.

Follow-up care

People who have pacemakers can receive ongoing follow-up care either in appointments with pacemaker technicians or nurses, or by telephone. Specially designed transmitter units allow regularly scheduled surveillance of pacemaker function in the convenience of the person's home or away from home. People with defibrillators are also assessed at regular follow-up appointments.
