Mayo's Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory includes cardiovascular invasive cardiologists, cardiovascular radiologists and laboratory staff who provide individualized diagnosis and treatment plans based on each patient's unique medical needs. The lab performs more than 2,000 cardiac catheterizations a year. A full range of technical evaluations and treatments are available, including:

  • Diagnostic left and right heart catheterization
    • Diagnostic coronary angiography
    • Assessment for cardiomyopathy (constrictive versus restrictive)
    • Assessment for valve leakage or blockage
  • Endomyocardial biopsy
  • Coronary angioplasty
    • Balloon angioplasty
    • Coronary artery stenting, including new drug-coated stents
    • Other interventional procedures, including rotational coronary atherectomy (Rotablator) and Angiojet
    • Use of distal embolization devices
    • Brachytherapy
