"Valvular Heart Disease: New Strategies" second annual conference and meeting was presented May 14-17 in Las Vegas, Nevada, by Mayo School of Continuing Medical Education and the
Heart Valve Society of America.
World-renowned experts in valvular heart diseases presented current emerging information for cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and other physicians on how to deal with this prominent public health problem.
Valvular heart diseases are among the leading causes of heart failure and premature cardiac death. It is estimated that more than ten million Americans have some type of heart valve abnormality and in approximately five million the disease is moderate to severe, while three to four million will require surgery at some time in their lives. These numbers will grow as the population ages.
