At other times, physicians or their staff may contact the Mayo Clinic operator at (507) 284-2511 and request the cardiovascular surgeon on call.

Cardiovascular Surgery Fellowship Program

The Cardiovascular Surgery Division has had a training program since 1919. Residents are selected from an extremely competitive pool of applicants.

Residents participate in patient care during this educational process. They are under the active and close supervision of the cardiovascular staff members. Patients benefit from the active exchange of ideas and intellectual discourse that is an indispensable component of medical education. Most cases are discussed in conferences between cardiovascular surgeons and other specialists to ensure that patients benefit from their accumulated experience.
