Staff in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota treats people of all ages, including infants. The laboratory staff includes cardiologists with training in treating children who have heart disease (pediatric cardiologists).
Many children who have cardiac catheterization at Mayo Clinic have congenital heart diseases that may be repaired with a catheter-based procedure, eliminating the need for open-heart surgery. Sometimes cardiac catheterization is necessary to obtain additional information about the structure or function of your child's heart that can't be gathered through other diagnostic tests.
