Canker Sores

Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of canker sores may include:

  • A painful sore or sores on the inside of the mouth — on the tongue, soft palate, inside of the cheeks or lips and the base of the gums
  • A tingling or burning sensation prior to appearance of the sores
  • Round, whitish sores, with a red edge or halo

If patients experience the following symptoms, they aren't caused by canker sores and may be a warning of other medical conditions:

  • Fever
  • Listlessness
  • Swollen lymph nodes
