Bruxism

Diagnosis

Dentists usually check for signs of bruxism during regular examinations. If they notice symptoms such as worn down teeth, chewed cheek tissue or a tight jaw, but do not find immediate dental problems or other causes such as a middle ear infection or disorder of the jaw joint, they may observe the condition over a few visits before making a diagnosis and possible referral.

Some patients may self-diagnose based on their own observations or reports from roommates or sleep partners.
