Breast Clinic in Minnesota

Overview

The Breast Diagnostic Clinic provides diagnosis, imaging and treatment to women with a variety of conditions including abnormal mammograms, breast lumps, breast pain, fibrocystic breasts, breast cancer and more (see complete list of diseases and treatments).

Team Approach to Care

The Breast Diagnostic Center is an integrated practice, drawing on the collaborative efforts of many specialists in breast disease. A comprehensive range of imaging services are available. In addition, patients requiring breast surgery or care for breast cancer receive treatment through the center.

The patient's principal physician, an internal medicine breast specialist, develops a comprehensive plan to address the patient's breast concerns. She often consults with physicians in breast imaging, medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgery and plastic surgery, genetics and psychology.

The dedicated team centered around the patient includes the patient's local physician to aid follow-up care.

Timeliness of Appointments

The staff understands the anxiety associated with a breast condition and that prompt attention at every step of care and treatment is important to patients.

  • The Breast Diagnostic Center provides timely access to new patients.
  • The principal breast physician coordinates services — from breast imaging to pathology and surgery, as needed. Evaluation is initiated within 24 to 48 hours, reducing waiting time and the need for multiple visits.
  • The patient receives direct verbal communication of test results, often within 24 hours.

Focus on Patients

Mayo Clinic focuses on the needs of patients, including as much time as needed with a woman's physicians.

Most services and treatments are provided in one facility so care is convenient for the patient coming to Rochester. Care is given in a supportive environment, and consultation rooms and imaging areas are comfortable.

After all options have been presented, the patient makes decisions about her treatment and follow-up care. Mayo Clinic offers comprehensive patient education and counseling.
