Breast Cancer

Treatment in Minnesota

All treatment options described on these pages are available in Minnesota. Mayo Clinic in Minnesota's extensive Breast Practice includes:

  • The Breast Diagnostic Clinic helps stage the evaluation, treatment and follow-up of patients' breast concerns. The clinic draws on the collaborative efforts of specialists in internal medicine, radiology, oncology, radiation oncology, pathology and surgery, among others. The Breast Diagnostic Center is committed to providing access to new patients within 48 hours.
  • Breast Imaging and Intervention, which performs screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasound examinations, and image-guided breast biopsies. Staff in Minnesota perform approximately 45,000 mammograms, 5,600 ultrasound breast examinations, and 1,000 core biopsies annually. Annual training in cutting-edge technique keeps Mayo staff at the forefront of the field.
  • A Breast Cancer Clinic for women with a new diagnosis of breast cancer or who have a history of breast cancer with new concerns.

Patients at Mayo Clinic meet with members of their healthcare team to find the best and most appropriate approach for their care. Before recommending a treatment plan, physicians review the patient's preferences, laboratory tests, X-rays, medical history, family history and any prior treatments for cancer.

Treatment Team

If surgery is an option, a surgeon will be consulted. If radiation therapy is considered, a radiation oncologist will be consulted. A medical oncologist discusses the potential use of hormone therapy and chemotherapy with patients.
